Three years ago, five men got together in a pub in Brackley to discuss the possibility of starting
a community radio station to serve Brackley, Buckingham, Bicester and the surrounding area.
That was their dream and today that dream has more than found its reality in 3Bs Radio.
From a studio based in the University of Buckingham, 3Bs Radio broadcasts online to an ever-increasing number of listeners. Around 40 presenters broadcast 7 days per week with recorded music curated and broadcast overnight, every night. It is truly a 24/7 operation!
This is true community radio. 3Bs is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company which means that it has been set up with the express intention of benefitting the local community. Any profits that do arise are donated to local charities.
3Bs is staffed by volunteers and the station is supported by businesses from around the area. Community news forms an important part of the programming, with local people often being invited into the studio to talk about their particular organisation, interest or event.
In July 2025 3Bs held a 25-hour broadcast marathon which raised more than £2,500 for two charities:
the Fire Fighters’ Charity and Brain Tumour Research. Other special events also take place throughout the year.
In addition to studio broadcasts, 3Bs presenters undertake outside broadcasts from venues around the area, including assisted commentaries on all Brackley Town FC matches.
With ambitious and exciting plans to move from online to DAB broadcasting, 3Bs Radio is set to continue to grow and develop over the next few years.
New presenters and backroom staff are always welcome with training given to all who want to join the station. New supporters are also wanted and they will be featured across the range of programmes.
