As the festive season arrives, Brackley is sparkling once again. Our beautiful Christmas lights are bringing the High Street to life, and the lovely white lights in our town trees are creating that magical Brackley glow we all look forward to each year. It is always a real honour to be involved in the Christmas lights switch on, a celebration that brings the community together with a Christmas Market and live music.
A Day to Remember
On the 1st of June, I wrote:
“Yesterday was one of the best days of my life. I am tremendously honoured to become the Mayor of Brackley. I am also so happy that my lovely wife Kim was beside me and became the Mayoress.”
That day was unforgettable. Friends and family joined us, and Cllr Jason Kew became Deputy Mayor, a role he has embraced with enthusiasm. We celebrated with a meal at Chilli & Pepper, live music at The Lounge Café Bar, and dancing at The Lion with The Inflatables Ska Band. It was the perfect start to an incredible year.
Summer of Community Spirit
The summer months were packed with events that showcased Brackley’s vibrant heart:
- Opening the Skate Park – a proud moment for our young people
- Brackley Chicken Run – full of fun and laughter
- Teddy Bear Picnic – a delightful day for families
- The Saints Project – celebrating 10 years of this wonderful community project
- Brackley Classic Cars in the Park – an annual celebration of the areas connection with the motor industry
- World Singing Day on the Piazza – voices united in harmony
- Brackley Big Party in the Park – pure joy and togetherness
- VJ Day 80 Commemoration – honouring those who served with dignity
I also had the privilege of visiting Brackley care homes, sharing smiles and stories with residents, and hosting Mayor’s Coffee Mornings, which have become a wonderful way to connect with you all.
Tradition and Remembrance
Autumn brought cherished traditions:
- Brackley Charter Fair Opening – a historic event that reminds us of our roots
- Fireworks Night, sponsored by Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team raising funds for Helen & Douglas House charity – a spectacular evening that combined fun with purpose
- Armistice Day on the Piazza – a deeply moving service with local schools, standing together in front of the Town Hall to honour those who gave so much
These moments of remembrance and celebration show the strength and unity of our town.
My Chosen Charity
This year, I am proud to support B Yourself, a Brackley-based charity dedicated to helping young people with additional needs and their families lead fulfilling lives. Their work is inspiring, and I hope to raise awareness and funds through events in the coming months. Please visit www.b-yourself.org.uk to learn more and see how you can help.
Gratitude and Community Warmth
I cannot express enough how warmly the community has treated me during my time as Mayor. From kind words to enthusiastic support at events, you have made this role a joy and an honour. I also want to acknowledge the hard work of our Town Council staff and volunteers – your dedication behind the scenes makes everything possible. Thank you for all you do.
Looking Ahead
As we move into the New Year, my focus will remain on community engagement, supporting local businesses, and ensuring Brackley continues to be a welcoming, vibrant town. There are challenges ahead, but together, we can meet them with optimism and determination.
A Festive Wish
On behalf of the Town Council and myself, I wish every resident of Brackley a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year. May your celebrations be filled with peace, happiness, and the company of loved ones. Thank you for making Brackley the wonderful town it is. I am proud to serve as your Mayor.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
