A dementia diagnosis can feel like the world has suddenly become smaller. Simple routines can become challenging, and many people find themselves losing touch with the community they once loved. But here in North Oxfordshire and South Northamptonshire, one local charity is making a real difference.
Dementia Active is dedicated to helping people living with dementia stay connected, engaged, and full of purpose. With regular meet-ups in Banbury and Evenley, the charity offers friendly, structured activity sessions that make every day a little brighter.
At the heart of Dementia Active is the belief that everyone deserves to feel valued and included. Their sessions are welcoming, relaxed, and filled with laughter. Members enjoy gentle exercise, dancing, arts and crafts, games, and good conversation over lunch. Every activity is designed to stimulate the mind, encourage social interaction, and boost confidence.
It’s not just about keeping busy – it’s about belonging. As one carer said, “For my husband it gave him social time and interaction with other people. For me, it was a life saver – it gave me a little respite and the joy of seeing him smile again.”
The charity runs small group sessions at 7 Manor Park in Banbury and Evenley Village Hall near Brackley, typically between 11am and 3pm. Members are supported by friendly staff and volunteers who take the time to get to know each person and what they enjoy. There’s often music playing, creative projects on the go, and plenty of conversation flowing over a hot lunch.
For many families, Dementia Active offers a lifeline – a place where loved ones are understood, supported, and encouraged to stay active in body and mind. The charity’s vision is clear: to create a world where everyone living with dementia has access to meaningful social connection and stimulation.
