Summer feels tantalisingly close now after the beautiful sunshine of the Easter holidays!
Thoughts turn to treats to cool us on those long hot (ok, warmish) days, and immediately Ice-cream springs to mind.
Did you know that the history of ice cream is not clear? There are various reports from Persia in 550BC and China hinting at the frozen dessert, but it was in the 17th Century in Europe that ice cream gained popularity. One of those early tasters was King Charles II in 16711.
To produce the frozen dessert, it had to be placed in a pot surrounded by salt and ice and left for the endothermic reaction to take place. It was the development of electrical freezers in the early part of the 20th Century that really allowed ice cream to be enjoyed by the entire population, and it has been a favourite ever since.
