Harvest

Give back to the Brackley community this Harvest

Harvest is traditionally a time to celebrate the food we have and share it with others. But giving back to our community can take many forms. From supporting local food initiatives to helping reduce food waste, there are lots of ways we can make a difference right here in Brackley.

Brackley Community Larder

The Brackley Community Larder is a great local resource for anyone looking to shop more sustainably while also saving money on their weekly food shop.

Working with FareShare and Food For Thought, the Larder accesses surplus food from supermarkets and food suppliers that might otherwise go to waste. By helping to redistribute this food within the local community, the Larder plays an important role in reducing food waste and keeping perfectly good food out of landfill.

Based at Egerton Hall on Juno Crescent, the Larder is open every Friday from 12pm to 1pm. Members pay a small annual membership fee of £10, then choose the food they would like using a simple points system. You can purchase 10 points for £5 or 22 points for £10, with fruit, vegetables and bread also available free of charge.

So, if you’re looking for ways to reduce your household food waste, make more sustainable choices and save a little money at the same time, the Community Larder is well worth knowing about.

Brackley Food Bank

Brackley Food Bank provides essential food and supplies to local individuals and families who are facing difficult circumstances. Like many food banks, it relies on the generosity of the community to keep its shelves stocked and its volunteers working to support those who need it.

There are lots of simple ways to get involved this Harvest. If you’re doing your weekly shop, why not add a few extra non-perishable, in-date items to your basket? You can donate through collection points at participating supermarkets, local churches and primary schools, many of which organise Harvest collections during the autumn term.

You can also make a financial donation directly to the Food Bank, helping them purchase the items they need most.

Whether it’s a tin of soup, a packet of pasta or a small financial donation, every contribution can help. This Harvest, let’s remember that looking after our community is something we can all play a part in.
