March is here, and although winter is officially behind us, many of us still feel the effects of cold, damp weather. This in-between season is an important time to gently build ourselves up for the months ahead, rather than rushing straight into doing more.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), spring is linked to movement, growth and renewal. After winter’s stillness, the body naturally wants to stretch, circulate more freely and reconnect with the outdoors.
One of the simplest ways to support health in March is by getting outside regularly. Fresh air, daylight and gentle movement support sleep, energy levels and emotional wellbeing, helping the body shake off winter heaviness.
Here in Brackley, we are fortunate to have beautiful green spaces nearby. Whether it’s a gentle walk around St James Lake, local footpaths or countryside lanes, spending time outdoors doesn’t need to be complicated or time-consuming.
On my own daily dog walk, I make a conscious effort to enjoy the fresh air and take in my surroundings.
I always try to say hello to people I pass – Brackley is such a friendly town, and those small interactions often start the day positively. I also enjoy listening to a podcast, using that time to learn or feel inspired, which helps set me up calmly for the day ahead.
Even a ten-minute walk can make a real difference. There is no bad weather for walking – only unsuitable clothing – so pop on your coat, pull on your boots and get stepping.
