Since my last update, I have had the pleasure of visiting our twinned town of Montabaur in Germany. I was welcomed with open arms, and it struck me how much our two communities have in common. Montabaur faces many of the same challenges as Brackley, yet their passion for the twinning and their connection with our town is unwavering. Strengthening these international friendships is an honour, and I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Brackley abroad.
As I approach my final month as Mayor, I am busy organising a series of events that will both support my nominated charity, b-Yourself, and offer something enjoyable for our community. These include an Afternoon Tea with entertainment, a Mayor’s Coffee Morning, and an Ale Tasting in collaboration with our wonderful local licensed premises. Each event is being planned with the aim of bringing people together while raising funds for a charity that does vital work in supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing.
I am also delighted to be hosting another Meet the Mayor session, joined by our Town Mace Bearer, Mick Anderton. Local young people will be invited to learn about Brackley’s history, discover the traditions behind the Mayor’s role, and ask any questions they wish. Encouraging our younger residents to engage with their town and its heritage is something I take great pride in.
On 11th March, I spent the day at Brackley Town Hall where West Northamptonshire Council presented information on their plans for the future of Brackley. Over 100 members of our community attended to view the exhibition boards, ask questions, and share their thoughts with WNC representatives. It was heartening to see so many people taking the time to be involved, and I sincerely hope that our community’s views reach the right ears and play a meaningful part in shaping what comes next.
As my term draws to a close, I remain as committed as ever to supporting our residents and celebrating everything that makes Brackley a wonderful place to live. I look forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming events.
Bernie Tiller
Mayor of Brackley
