Over the summer months I have been consistently reminded of how wonderful, selfless and enthusiastic our community is, making Brackley such a special place to live.
One recent example is the Brackley Poppy Project. Thank you to everyone who has supported this year’s display. Whether you joined one of our stitching sessions, where my little ones and lovely wife were sewing rings around me while I wrestled with a needle and thread, or spent countless hours throughout the year knitting and crocheting poppies at home, every contribution has helped bring the display to life. The community spirit shown by Brackley residents never ceases to amaze me. You’ll be able to see the result of everyone’s hard work on the Town Hall in November as part of our Remembrance Parade and Service.
Summer events have also given me plenty of memorable moments. The Brackley Classic Car Show welcomed a record number of vehicles and visitors, turning the town into a real celebration of motoring history. One of the things I enjoyed most was chatting to owners and hearing the stories behind their vehicles, many of which have been lovingly restored over many years. With so many fantastic cars on display, choosing an overall winner was no easy task!
The Teddy Bear Picnic was another highlight. Lots of families came along to enjoy an afternoon in the sunshine, and I had the rather unusual privilege of opening the event from the top of a cherry picker, launching the first brave bears into the air. Seeing so many children and families having fun together made it a very special day.
Alongside the summer events, I also had the pleasure of welcoming the Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire to Brackley and showing him some of what makes our town so special. I was also delighted to visit my chosen charity, Brackley Men in Sheds, and see first-hand the excellent work taking place there and the difference it makes to people’s lives.
Every visit, event and conversation I have as Mayor reminds me how lucky I am to be in this position, and I look forward to seeing many more of you over the coming months as we head towards the festive season.
