Tell us a little about how you got started?

I began my journey in the plumbing industry 20 years ago, working for a few different firms and gaining valuable experience along the way. As an apprentice, I had the privilege of working alongside someone in their 60s who had been in the industry since the age of 16. The knowledge I gained from him is something I will forever be grateful for. In 2014, I took a leap of faith and started my own business. Over the years, I have steadily built the business, gaining qualifications along the way. Today, I run an OFTEC-registered limited company.

Where is your business based and what areas do you cover?

Gilbert’s Plumbing & Heating Services Ltd is based in Brackley and primarily serves the villages in and around Brackley, Towcester, Bicester, and Buckingham. I am also happy to travel further afield to assist customers with their projects. This year, I completed a full re-plumbing of a manor house in Wallingford for an existing customer. The project included installing two new oil boilers, 42 new radiators, two 300-litre pressurised hot water cylinders, and six new bathrooms. All the piping was done in copper.

What plumbing and heating services do you offer?

We offer a wide range of services, from general plumbing and complete bathroom installations to anything heating-related, including pressurised hot water and oil boilers. As an OFTEC-registered engineer, I can install, service and maintain oil boilers and oil tanks. I also hold a G3 qualification, which allows me to safely install, service, and maintain pressurised hot water systems. Another service we offer is power flushing for central heating systems, using the latest equipment to flush and clean them.

What makes you different from your competitors?

In Brackley and the surrounding areas, there are many companies, but very few offer the same range of services. Having worked in and around the area for over 20 years, I have built strong professional relationships with customers. I receive a lot of repeat business from satisfied clients, which in turn leads to recommendations. Every job is different, but my ultimate goal is always a satisfied customer. I take the time to thoroughly assess each job and ensure that everyone is on the same page, so the final outcome matches the customer’s vision.

Earlier this year, I became a service engineer for a boiler manufacturer called Navien. With Navien, I cover a large area, maintaining their oil boilers. They trust me to handle warranty calls, repairing their boilers and getting customers back up and running.

What are the goals for the next year?

Looking ahead, I want to support people with their renovation projects, offering expert guidance and services. With the colder months approaching and the cost of living rising, my goal is to help homeowners get the most out of their heating systems, ensuring they’re running efficiently.

Sometimes, it’s the small adjustments and advice that make a big difference—such as power flushing your system and radiators. These measures can not only extend the life of your heating system but also help you save money in the long run.

What are the future plans for Gilbert's Plumbing & Heating?

In recent years, there have been some exciting changes at Gilbert’s Plumbing & Heating. As the business continues to grow, I’m aiming to fulfil a personal ambition: to share my knowledge and experience by inspiring the next generation to join this industry. Through an apprenticeship scheme, I hope to train and mentor new talent, welcoming them to be a part of our team.
