Give the Gift of Time at Stowe House
Did you know it takes a team of over 60 local volunteers to help keep Stowe House open and thriving? As an independent charity, we rely on the incredible generosity of those who give their time to support our work – welcoming visitors, caring for our collection, helping behind the scenes, and sharing the stories that make this place so special.
Now we’re looking for new volunteers to join our friendly team. Whether you can offer a few hours a week or just occasional help, there are plenty of ways to get involved. Volunteering at Stowe House is a wonderful way to meet like-minded people, learn new skills, support a local cause, and be part of something truly rewarding.
We offer a flexible approach to fit around your lifestyle, and full training and support are provided. From front-of-house roles to event assistance or heritage research, there’s something for everyone.
With a new year just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to try something new and make a difference in your community.

‘Having just moved to the area I have found being a volunteer at Stowe has given me so much joy. The team of staff and volunteers are super friendly, and I very much look forward to my Thursdays with them all. An incredible place to provide support whilst soaking up the beautiful surroundings.’ – Linda Hedderick
Warm Up This Winter
As winter sets in, we move to our seasonal opening hours. From 1 December to 1 March, the House, Museum and Visitor Centre are open weekends only, from 10.30am to 3.30pm. We’ll also open specially for the post-Christmas festivities and again during February half term, so there are still plenty of opportunities to visit.
Why not make Stowe part of your winter plans? Escape the house, stretch your legs, and recharge in the peaceful surroundings of our historic estate. If you’re walking off those crimbo calories in the gardens (National Trust, separate admission applies), stop halfway at the House for a winter-warming drink before continuing your wander.
We also welcome dogs in the Visitor Centre, so your four-legged friends can join you for a cosy break. And while you’re here, keep an eye out for our very own ‘Stoweman’, part of the Garden Community Trail – a fun seasonal sight for all ages to enjoy!
